To offer greater convenience to Macao residents when dealing with
	   
   personal affairs during the period of substitution/renewal of BIR (except
   
   the case of loss of BIR), starting from 4th November, 2003, the original
    
   BIR will not be confiscated at the time of application while it must be
    
   returned to the Identification Department for voidance upon receiving the
   
   new BIR.  During the processing period, should the original BIR be used,
    
   receipt must be presented when necessary.
